The Airborne March takes place on public roads and paths both inside and outside the built-up areas in the municipality of Renkum and in the many wooded areas that surround it. In Oosterbeek and the immediate vicinity, the roads and paths that form part of the walking route will be accessible exclusively to walkers. In the outlying areas, walkers and other traffic will share the road. Both on the roads that form part of the route and on the road network around the route, there will therefore be closures of roads or sections of road.
Traffic congestion and flow
Due to the influx of participants and visitors, there will also be higher than usual traffic intensity on the regional road network on Saturdays. At peak times, this will have a major impact on traffic flow on the local and (supra)regional road network. Additional traffic measures are therefore necessary to ensure that traffic flows effectively and safely.
Closures and diversions
Throughout Saturday, the access roads to Oosterbeek will be closed and local traffic between Arnhem and Wageningen will be diverted around Oosterbeek. Access to Oosterbeek via Dreijenseweg will be closed in both directions from 7 a.m. Schelmseweg will be closed from the N224 (Amsterdamseweg) in the direction of Oosterbeek from 6.30 a.m. From 9 a.m. or earlier if deemed necessary, the other roads in Oosterbeek will also be closed to through traffic. This is expected to remain closed until 6 p.m. or earlier or later if necessary due to heavy traffic.
